About Solubility Product

The solubility product constant (Ksp) is an equilibrium constant that describes the extent to which a sparingly soluble salt dissolves in water. It is defined as the product of the concentrations of the ions raised to their stoichiometric coefficients.

Formula:

Ksp = [A]^a × [B]^b

Where [A] and [B] are the concentrations of ions, and a and b are their stoichiometric coefficients.

Key Concepts:

  • Ksp is temperature dependent
  • Higher Ksp values indicate greater solubility
  • Used to predict precipitation and solubility
  • Important in analytical chemistry and environmental science
